Ghasitaram, under pressure from his wife, decides to allocate a barren piece of land to his orphaned nephew, Dhanna, who lives with his wife, Bhagwanti, and sister, Laali. Dhanna strives in vain to till this piece of land and ultimately decides to call in Bhagwan Shri Vishnu for assistance. He goes to Pandit Tirlochan, who, instead gives him a rock, and the naive Dhanna brings it home, and refuses to eat anything until and unless Vishnuji shares his humble offerings. This leads to the entire community, including Bhagwanti and Laali, coming to the conclusion that Dhanna has lost his mind.

An Alm-seeking sage informs Ganga, who lives a poor lifestyle with her widower father, that she will have two men in her life. She will soon find out that the first one is Ranga - a ruthless bandit, who lusts after her; and Rajkumar Chander - who sexually molests women at will and with impunity - who she will wed, and end up in an abusive relationship. Things only get worse when the couple will be abducted by Ranga and held captive in his hideout.

Jainath is born in a lower-caste family, consisting of his father, Raghu, and house-wife mother. In his childhood itself he incurs the wrath of upper-caste Hindus, led by Badey Thakur, when he dares to venture in the Mandir of Bhagwan Shri Krishan. Sage Atmanand intervenes, makes him a disciple and teaches him about the Ved and Bhagwad Geeta. When he grows up he meets with Roopa, who is also a low-caste, and both fall in love much to the chagrin of her maternal uncle, Kallu, who dislikes Jainath. Then Badey Thakur sees Roopa and would like to make her his own despite of her background, but she rejects him. The humiliated Thakur sets a trap with others in the community that will ensure that her uncle gets enough wealth to get her married to an elderly male - while Jainath will be arrested, brought before the Maharaja - and sentenced to death.
